Guide for improving basic skills.
Shoot in JPG file
format. If you are shooting in RAW - shoot RAW+JPG fine. RAW files
can't be seen on some computers or in some programs.
Rename all your files.
Use Bridge or Lightroom to change the name from the camera assigned
filename:
Use F15P (P for Photo One D for digital)+ underscore __
the first three letters of your last name, Initials to indicate the assignment
(WU for warmup) and keep the original camera filename. Example F15D_PEA_Ass_CIM123456
Shoot in Aperture Priority: A or AV Most
of the time you can control everything you need by using Aperture Priority.
This setting will adjust the shutter speed to get the proper exposure
under most conditions. This is effective for Depth of Field where
the f/stop determines the amount in focus. It is also effective for .
By shooting in Aperture Priority instead of Manual the camera will adjust
to give you the proper exposure.
MOTION CONTROL:
Changing the f/stop will force the Shutter speed to what you need. The
largest aperture (f /2 - f/4 or f/5.6) will give you the fastest Shutter
Speed (frozen motion). The smallest aperture (f /16 - f/22 etc) will give
you the slowest Shutter Speed (blurry motion).
DEPTH OF FIELD: The largest aperture (f /2 - f/4 or f/5.6) will
give you the shallowest DOF. The smallest aperture (f /16 - f/22 etc)
will give you the deepest DOF - more in focus.
FOCUS: If the
subject is moving or has multiple focus points or depths, MANUAL FOCUS
could be your best option.
WHITE BALANCE:
Auto works most of the time. If you are in Sunlight it is easy to
set your WB to Sunny . If you are unsure of what the light source
is or you have mixed light sources, learn and use your Custom or Manual
White Balance
EXPOSURE COMPENSATION: Use
the EV compensation setting rather than over and under exposing with manual
exposure. The meter in the camera doesn't know what your subject is, It
wants to make the image Middle Grey. If your subject is lighter
than middle gray (white subject) - set your camera to +EV. If your
subject is darker than middle gray (black subject) set your camera to
-EV.
